SPORTS DEVELOPMENT OFFICE
The 1986 Constitution declares it under Article X1V, Sec. 19 (1) which states that, “the State shall promote physical education and encourage sports programs, league competitions and amateur sports, including training for international competitions, to foster self – discipline, teamwork, and excellence for the development of a healthy and alert citizenry.”
The sports program of the Sports Development Office (SDO) supports this constitutional mandate of the country. Primarily, its objective is to provide sports programs and activities that will enhance the skills of students in the field of sports. Through these programs, there is heightened interest and increasing participation of students in sports related programs and activities. Moreover, the office works towards making sports more accessible to students, thus getting them more engaged and involved. In the words of Don Bosco, “my children, jump, run and play and make all the noise you want but avoid sin like the plague and you will surely gain heaven.”.
Every year the office conducts sports clinic in various sports like basketball, football, badminton, swimming, table tennis, volleyball, arnis, aikido, karatedo, and taekwon do. Students who have shown extraordinary skills in sports are chosen to become varsity players of the school. These varsity players undergo trainings to further improve their skills and build their confidence. Don Bosco Technical Institute of Makati is an active participant to the Don Bosco Athletic Association (DBAA), Palarong Pambansa and other regional, national and international sports competitions.
