Light rain showers poured early morning of September 4, 2009. This did not dampen though the Eucharistic Celebration in honor of St. Dominic Savio, the young Bosconian saint who was a pupil of St. John Bosco. Fr. Larry Tan, SDB, at present one of our priest confessors, a former Principal of our school and one of the founders of the Savio Club was the main celebrant together with Fr. Junji Zarate, SDB and Fr. Renato de Guzman, SDB as co-celebrators.
Vibrant in his homily, Fr. Larry reminded us of St. Dominic as the pride of all Salesian schools and Bosconians. He said that St. Dominic, who was barely 15 years old when he died, is the youngest saint in the Church. His outstanding virtues were that of purity and piety. Fr. Larry challenged every Bosconian to emulate this great saint. This we can do he said if we can just DO OUR ORDINARY DUTIES EXTRAORDINARILY WELL.
Fr. Larry reminded us too of the four promises of this Bosconian Saint – that of loving Jesus and the Blessed Mother, going to regular confession and frequent communion, attending Sunday Masses regularly to make holy the Lord’s day and to die rather than to sin. Fr. Larry urged everyone to practice these promises and to be models of goodness everywhere we are.
In the end, Fr. Larry challenged the Bosconians in the assembly. He said – “Can any one here from Don Bosco Technical Institute – Makati be the next Bosconian saint following St. Dominic Savio?” We wondered but this can be a possibility!
