HS Intramurals Dubbed as “Fired Up!”

Posted October 7, 2009

The high school intramurals, dubbed as “Fired Up” was held last September 26, 2009, at the Magone Dome of Don Bosco Technical Institute- Makati. This was spearheaded by the Student Council and Auxiliary staff as well as the Physical Education Area of the high school.

The theme“Fired Up” was used for this year’s intramurals, which means being heated up, increasing one’s skills or being energized. A lot of students though said that it was ironic since the bad weather did not cooperate in making the activity as fiery as  expected.  Instead, barrels of heavy rain poured throughout the proceedings of the activity.

To begin with, from 7:00 until 7:30 in the morning, songs were played while mobilization was on going. The students and faculty, as well as some non teaching personnel assembled at the Magone Dome. Tasked to be the emcees of the program were Masters Armon De la Cruz and Hallie Francisco.

At about 7:45, the opening rites occurred. This included the singing of the Philippine National Anthem led by Master Gio Pineda and morning prayer which was interpreted by the Teatro Busko, the school’s theater club.

Later, Master Adrian Castro, the Student Council’s Secretary, and the Junior Event Chairman of the activity, explained the theme “Fired Up” to the assembly. This was followed by the presentation of the three judges namely Mrs. Alda Sumbingco, Mrs. Geraldine Banania, and Mrs. Ana Eloriaga.

Fifteen students from different sports teams (five from basketball, five from soccer, three from badminton, and two from table tennis) in their color coded jerseys joined the parade of athletes all over the Magone dome. Simultaneous with this was the ramp of Muses and Escorts from each section of the different year levels.

After the parade and ramp, Mr. Lito Tenerife, the High School Principal, gave the welcome remarks which coincided with the intramural’s theme. This was followed by one of the highlights of the event, the lighting of torch given a song interpretation by   the teatro busko. Several chemicals for variation of colors, as well as electrical components were used just to make this lighting a special one. A bursting reddish light sparked widely as the torch was lighted, making a magnificent multicolored flame which released a huge amount of white smoke covering the entire dome. The lighting of torch was given a loud thunderous applause by the participants as well as the members of the Principal’s Council.

As the flame of the torch lit amidst the heavy  rainfall, the school’s Rector, Fr. Anthony Paul Bicomong, SDB, was given the floor to open the intramural rites with his exact words, “By the power vested in me as Rector of this school, I now declare the intramural games, open”. After this statement, a thunderous applause was heard from the crowd.

The Oath of Sportsmanship came next. This was led by Master Jaime Pablo, Basketball Varsity player. Up next, the “DB Extreme”, the school’s dance club, gave an intermission number making the audience even more fired up.

The program continued and proceeded with the Final Ramp of the finalists. The finalists for Ms. Intramurals were Ms. Hanny Rallos, Ms. Danica Nemis, Ms. Karren Lerios, and Ms. Rayanne Restrivera while the finalists for Mr. Intramurals were Masters Mark Agulto, Raphael Salazar, Raymond Garcia, and Ayrton Henares.

It was about 9:10 when Mr. Ramero Calopez, the Assistant Principal for Student Affairs (APSA), gave his closing remarks. After this , it was time for the Awarding of Mr. and Ms. Intramurals 2009. The Emcees, announced that Master Mark Agulto of 4- Rinaldi won the title “Mr. Intramurals”, while Ms. Hanny Rallos  was chosen as “Miss Intramurals”.

It was indeed a wet Intramurals Day but definitely a successful one!
