“We are the seniors!” proudly shouted the fourth year high school students as they won four major awards at the cheer dance competition namely, “Best in Choreography”, “Best in Creativity”, and “Best in Costume” and of course as the “Champion” during the Intramurals Closing Ceremonies entitled, “Fired Up!”. This event was held at the Savio Dome from 5:30PM to 8:00PM last February 19, 2010 and was organized by the high school Student Council and Auxiliary Staff.
After countless quarters of Basketball, painstaking goals of Football, numerous laps and relays of Swimming, endless rallies and tie-breakers of Badminton and Table Tennis, the time has come for this school year’s Intramurals to come to a close as the Rector, Fr. Anthony Paul Bicomong, SDB awarded the winners of the different sports events before the cheer dance competition.
First to perform were the Juniors who highlighted their four elements theme including earth, wind, water, and fire. They used shawls with four different colors representing the four elements as multipurpose props which were significantly a great factor for the success of their performance. They also used gigantic banners saying, “Go Juniors!” which were hung at the fourth floor level of the high school wing and the intermediate wing.
Next to perform were the Sophomores who demonstrated a tribal themed performance. Banners were raised using long bamboo sticks with their tribe’s name, “Nomadiko”. Their moves and cheers were very theatrical as they circulated a huge tree which represents their tribe. They wore tribal costumes and carried along bamboo sticks. Some even carried true wooden torches with real fire.
The Seniors came up next to perform. They demonstrated a space like theme with space like creatures and futuristic warriors. As their performance started, almost all the lights were turned off except for some black lights which gave emphasis on the neon colors the seniors wore.
Finally, the Freshmen came up next. They performed a very energetic performance as their theme was being fired up. Even though they were the youngest contestants, their performance was still up to the challenge that the upper batches demonstrated before them.
The judges of the competition were Prof. Minerva Atanacio- Brillante, the former coach of PNU cheering team, Ms. Allane Kim Aragon, a Benilde Romancon Dance Company member and a CSB scholar, and Mr. Vicente Racaza Jr., the head of the Institutional Affairs Department of the school and the former principal of the high school department.
Before the judges made their decisions on who won, the high school principal, Mr. Lito Tenerife, gave a message that really inspired the students.
At the end of the program, Prof. Aragon-Brillante mentioned the winners of the special awards. The Sophomores won “Best in Discipline”, while the Seniors won the rest of the special awards.
Later, Mr. Racaza mentioned the standing of each year level in the competition. The Freshmen were the 3rd runner- up, the Sophomores as 2nd runner- up, the Juniors as 1st runner- up and the Seniors were the Champion.
The organizers of the event thanked the Rector, Fr. Anthony Paul Bicomong SDB, the Salesians, the Principal, Mr. Lito Tenerife, the Assistant Principals, all faculty and staff, and the different people behind the success of the event.
As a whole, the Closing of Intramurals and the cheer dance competition proved the strong unity and determination to win as they geared up for their great performance. It provided an opportunity for each year level to showcase the best of their creative minds and the best of their kinesthetic abilities along with the values of unity, teamwork, cooperation and servant-leadership.
