DON BOSCO STARTS SCHOOL YEAR 2009 -2010

Posted June 19, 2009

School Year 2009 - 2010 for Don Bosco Technical Institute-Makati City began last June 8 when all high school students, excited and fresh from a two-month vacation, came back to school as scheduled. A general assembly of students and faculty at 8:00 o'clock at the Savio Dome ushered the activities in store for the rest of the school year. At the assembly, Fr. Anthony Paul E. Bicomong, Rector, delivered his welcome message and thereafter introduced the members of the Salesian Community. For this school year, the Salesian community has new members. Among the new members introduced were Fr. Jose Dindo Vitug, Fr. Larry Tan, Fr. Jose Lorbeth Vivo, and Fr. Manuel Leandro Domingo Jr.

Serving Don Bosco Pampanga as its Principal until last school year, Fr. Jose Dindo Vitug is the new High School Spiritual Moderator, taking the place of Fr. Dudz Hila who is now in Don Bosco Tondo. Fr. Dindo is currently taking up his masteral studies at De La Salle University.

Fathers Larry Tan, Jobeth Vivo and Manny Domingo, all dispensing a very important duty as confessor, are not strangers to Don Bosco Makati. Sometime in the past they were here serving the school in different capacities. Fr. Larry used to be the Principal (1989) and in the early 2000's, the High School Spiritual Moderator. Fr. Jobeth served as the High School Spiritual Moderator from 2003 until 2006 when in that year, he moved to Don Bosco Tarlac to serve as Principal until last school year. His stay in Don Bosco Makati however, would be quite brief as by August, he would be leaving for Rome to pursue higher studies.

Coming to Don Bosco Makati City to Fr. Manny Domingo was just crossing the fence. Prior to his current assignment, he was the parish priest of St. John Bosco Parish. Having served Don Bosco Makati City as the Grade School Spiritual Moderator. Fr. Manny certainly knows all the corners of the school as well as members of the faculty who are still around.

Fr. Rector singled out four Salesians who have been with the school but have assumed different assignments, namely: Fr. Renato De Guzman, formerly a confessor but is now the Grade School Spiritual Moderator and concurrently the school's Institutional Pastoral Animator (IPA) and the Religion curriculum head under the ODEA; Fr. Edwin Ulanday, formerly a confessor, but is now the MSTC Director, Fr. Rey Ranjo, formerly the Grade School Spiritual Moderator, still having the same function but now with the MSTC; and Bro. Elmer Rodriguez who had been the MSTC Technical Director since 1999 to 2009, and now still with the same department but having a different post - that of being the Industrial Relation Officer mainly responsible to liaise with industry for employment and placement of trainees who have completed their course. Fr. Rector also introduced the lone foreigner among them, another confessor in the person of Fr. Arikotlapu Vidyasagar, an Indian national and lastly he also mentioned other members of the community who unfortunately could not be present because of their precarious health condition.

As the morning wore on, other members of the school community were also introduced. The staff under the Administration Department was introduced by Fr. Junji Zarate, Administrator. Prior to the introduction of the High School Department personnel, the Ancillary Department people were also introduced. Specific orientation done by class advisers in the respective homerooms completed the morning of the first day. By afternoon, classes were held according to regular class schedules issued by the Principal.

The Grade School Department began the school year on the second day, June 9. Just like that of the High School's a general assembly of students and faculty was organized primarily for welcome, general orientation and introduction of school personnel both teaching and non-teaching. Despite the alarm raised over the A(H1N1) threat and the noise generated by persistent objections against the ConAss issue, the start of School Year 2009-2010 went on smoothly and by far, a very good indication that the school year would go on smoothly and perhaps better than the previous year. Thus on June 8 and 9, the journey of a thousand miles for 2009-2010 began.
