EPC CHRISTMAS MASS – DECEMBER 2009

It was a cool,  joyful morning of December 22, 2009. A Christmas Mass was celebrated in anticipation of the day when the Savior was born. In attendance were all the members of the Educative Pastoral Community and some Alumni Seminarians. Mass celebrators were our very own Salesian priests and a Salesian Deacon with our Rector, Fr. Anthony Paul Bicomong, SDB, as the main celebrant.

The celebration began with a happy Christmas song, O COME ALL YE FAITHFUL and ended with another joyful Christmas song, “JOY TO THE WORLD”.

But what was most significant was the message delivered by Fr. Paul in his homily. It focused on the true meaning of Christmas – that of giving service/ gifts to others which is more important than receiving. He gave the story of a boy who was selfish, self-centered and haughty. All he wanted for Christmas was to receive gifts and not to give to others.

This according to Fr. Paul is not the true meaning of Christmas. Fr. Paul emphasized that Christmas means giving, sharing and giving service to others. These deeds make others happy and Jesus is most happy when we do this. He mentioned Mary with Jesus in her womb visiting her cousin Elizabeth who was also pregnant with her child. And most of all, he said the best example of selflessness is Jesus himself giving his own life for us in atonement of our sins.

In the case of the EPC, Fr. Paul was very happy and proud to say that we are living the spirit of Christmas: the faculty foregoing the usual Christmas party and instead giving whatever amount to be spent for this to the Ondoy and Pepeng typhoon victims, MSTC students and faculty helping the Grade School students during the Marian activities, the Grade School boys simply celebrating Christmas with the MSTC and the High School students spending time and sharing goodies with the poor folks of Tripa de Gallina.

At the end of his homily, Fr. Paul encouraged everyone to continue living the spirit of Christmas. He quoted Jesus’ words – “Whatever you do to the least of my brethren, you do it to me”.

         Hope everyone had a blessed M E R R Y C H R I S T M A S !
