MIRIAM  COLLEGE  BENCHMARKED  WITH  DBTI

POSTED December 16, 2008

Twelve teachers from Miriam College in Katipunan, Quezon City came last November 18 to benchmark with our Christian Living teachers.  The visitors were accommodated by our Christian Living Area headed by Mr. Gilbert Arrieta and Fr. Duds Hila, SDB of the Office of Pastoral Affairs.  The interaction was an enriching experience among the teachers from the two schools.

The teachers from Miriam College learned how the Pastoral Program affects the spiritual formation of the students.  This Pastoral Program comes in two components:  the teaching of Christian Living and the Campus Ministry.  They are integral processes in the students’ journey toward maturity in Christ.

The Christian Living employs the Process Approach which goes in 4 phases:  Our Story, God’s Story divided into two parts – The Bible and the Church Teachings, the Integration, and the Worship.  It is a unique feature in DBTI as in other DB schools that students can frequent the Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist.  Salesian priests hear confessions at the hallways outside the classrooms and each year level celebrates the Eucharist weekly sponsored by an assigned section.   The Christian Living teachers who are adept in using varied Instructional Technologies provide a deepening experience of Christian Living especially at the 4th year level as they integrate an Outreach Activity in their CL classes.

The Campus Ministry is headed by Fr. Duds, SDB who facilitates the retreats and recollections with the assistance of Mr. Bien Mendoza, the CL teacher, and the Guidance Counselor, and the Class Adviser.    Mrs. Alda Sumbingco assists the students in the animation of the Sodalities.  These activities are integrated in the Christian Living Program with the optimum use of Instructional Technology which the teachers are adept to use.

Mr. Rey Doroja, a 2nd Year CL teacher conducted a demonstration teaching using the Process Approach.  The lesson was on the Catholic Church and Apostleship.

For the visitors from Miriam College, the visit was an enriching experience.  They saw the peculiarity of our Pastoral Program that they remarked, “your unique charism is indeed a benchmark in the spiritual formation of the young.”
