DON BOSCO-MAKATI HONORS SERVICE AWARDEES DURING THE
56th FOUNDATION DAY CELEBRATIONS

All Lay Mission Partners gathered together at the Joy Center to celebrate and honor nineteen service awardees who have rendered 40, 30, 25, 20 and 10 years of unwavering and committed service to the institution. Making the gathering more memorable was the very first awarding of 40 years of wholehearted and faithful service to our institution, Don Bosco Technical Institute -Makati.

The service awardees, mostly in their Filipiniana attire, walked the red carpet and were greeted with smiles and congratulations by their fellow Lay Mission Partners. After the prayer led by Fr. Renato De Guzman, SDB, our Rector, Fr. Anthony Paul Bicomong, SDB and our Administrator, Fr. Junji Zarate, SDB, presented the plaques, tokens and cash awards  to the awardees. The Service Awardees for ten years were first to be called on stage. They were followed by the Service Awardees for twenty years and twenty-five years respectively. Later, heavy merienda was served while the LMPs listened to the beautiful instrumental music by Mr. Gringo Villarin (HS) and Mr. Lorenz Mamorno (GS).

The Service Awardees for 30 years and 40 years were finally called. They were made to seat specially on stage and were serenaded with beautiful songs by Mr. Alfred Lozanta and Ms. Raquel Tesorero from the High School Department. Mr. Gringo Villarin and Mr. Lorenz Mamorno rendered the instrumental accompaniment.

Mrs. Teresita “Tita” Dimayuga, the only LMP to receive the 40 years of service before her fellow employees, shared the highlights of her service to the institution. Everyone was all ears and in admiration as she delivered her speech which started with a confession that she had mixed feelings of joy and sadnesss on this moment of recognition.

An elementary classroom teacher in her first fifteen years, she narrated she always looked forward to teaching young Bosconians, every school day of every school year that she taught. In her early years of teaching, she realized that teaching is a multi-tasking work yet is a great privilege because a teacher is someone who can touch different lives.

She later became a Subject Area Coordinator, a position she held for another fifteen years. Reminiscing those years, she said she will never forget the hard work made lighter by conscientious teachers under her and the camaraderie and friendship among the Subject Area Coordinators.

The last ten years of her service was in the MIC ( Multiple Intelligences Center) - the last chapter of her journey with the young in our beloved school. This is the sad part of her speech as she said she is about to retire and very soon to leave so many good memories in her 40 years of stay and service to the institution like the Marian Pilgrimages, Praying of the Rosary every October, EPC Masses, retreats, recollections, outings, EPC gatherings and NTOP Monday morning prayers. Notable too was her emphasis on the Salesian system of education that she learned and embraced as a Salesian educator.

She capped her speech by thanking the Salesians most especially Fr. Anthony Paul Bicomong, SDB for his kindness and understanding and Fr. Junjie Zarate, SDB for his prayers and blessings. She also thanked everyone most especially her friends and peers.

In a special way, she thanked her husband for waking her up in the morning to be ofn time for school work and for preparing her breakfast every day.

To end the ceremony, our beloved Rector, Fr. Anthony Paul Bicomong, SDB, gave his closing remarks. First, he congratulated all the awardees most especially Mrs. Tita Dimayuga. Then, he highlighted the school’s achievements this school year like the Grade School and the High School subscribing to GENYO for our students’ prowess on technology and global competiveness,  Relief Operations for Typhoon victims, Students’ Christmas Parties with the MSTC and Tripa De Gallina, Seminar-Workshops conducted by Guthrie-Jensen on Communication Assertiveness, Effectiveness and Advanced People Handling Skills which were attended by the Grade School and High School Faculty and the NTOP personnel, TESDA National Certification Level II Accreditation, Partnership with Toyota, FASAAPS Championship in Basketball and Volleyball, PRADA Championship in Basketball, Taekwondo and Table Tennis and FBL Championship in Basketball.

He continued his talk by citing the school’s other endeavors for quality and excellence like the Grade School’s PAASCU Level II Re-accreditation on March 3 & 4, 2010, the High School Department’s embarking on Robotics, the completion and implementation of the Manual for Administrative Policies and Procedures for the Philippine Province and the blessing of the newly refurbished BLESSED MICHAEL RUA auditorium. To enhance the role of religion as the core of the curriculum, he mentioned that there will be a new Pastoral Activity Center next school year 2010 – 2011.

In our continued quest for quality and excellence, Fr. Paul exhorted the LMPs to synergize all their efforts for a firm anchorage on Jesus and Mary and finding inspiration on how to make Don Bosco’s spirit come alive in our midst.

The fellowship was enthusiastically hosted by Mr. Reuben Calabio and Mrs. Julie Macaraig, Subject Area Heads from the High School Department.
