What is the "Don Bosco Training Center"?

It is a Home and School for the poor and out-of-school youth where they learn various technical skills of their choice as a means to gain decent employment. The center is managed and run by the Partners of the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB)

What courses are offered in the Center?

The AUTOMOBILE Mechanic Course develops the trainees' skills in repairing and maintaining gasoline and diesel engines, underchassis and transmission components, auto air-conditioning units and electrical systems of cars and other light vehicle models.

The trainees are taught the basics of planning and installing electrical wiring systems in houses and buildings, rewinding industrial motors and servicing industrial motor controls in the GENERAL ELECTRICIAN Course.

The trainees' ability and skills to fabricate machine coomponents and parts through the efficient operation of lathe, milling, gear hobber, shaper machines, and bench fitting, are covered in the FITTER MACHINIST course.

The REFRIGERATION and AIR-CONDITIONING Mechanic Course produces skilled manpower for industry who can install, repair, assemble, and maintain refrigeration and air-conditioning components for domestic, commercial and industrial use.

The INDUSTRIAL ELECTRONICS Course provides trainees with theories and hands-on experience in testing, servicing and maintaining industrial electronic devices and equipment, as well as computer literacy.

Who is Don Bosco?
      At a young age of nine, he dreamt of Jesus and Mary handing him a great mission. At first he did not understand the implications of the dreams.
Nevertheless he aspired to become a priest. He was finally ordained in 1841. In 1851, he opened a boarding school for the poor boys and organized workshops for printing, tailoring, and woodworking. In 1859, he founded a religious Congregation ( Salesians of Don Bosco or SDB ) to educate the poor and abandoned youth.
      He died on January 31, 1888; was beatified in 1929 and canonized on April 1, 1934, Today, Don Bosco's presence is felt through 17,000 Salesians in more than 100 countries and in thousands of Salesian Technical Schools.
How long does it take to finish a course?
The Course can be learned in one year. The first ten months of training are spent in the Center to build the trainees' theoretical foundation (30%) and their hands-on training experience (70%).

On the eleventh month, all trainees are assigned for a 5-month On-the-job Training (OJT) in selected companies to advance their technical skills and firm up their attitude as a means of preparing them for the exciting world of work. This orientation scheme initiates the graduates to an industrial setting that demands hard work, qualilty performance and proper work values.

Are the trainees assured of a job after graduation?

About ninety percent (90%) of our graduates are absorbed by the industry after completion of the program. The Center has established linkages and cooperation with over 100 companies through its Placement Office which also monitors industry's manpower demands.

how much is the tuition fee?

There is a normal amount that each trainee contributes for his training.Out of the total training cost Php 35,000.00 per trainee, the socialize scheme allows the trainee to contribute from Php 10,000.00 (or Php 1,000.00 monthly for ten months) or even higher depending on his/her financial capacity. A miscellanous fee of Php 5,000.00 is also contributed by the trainee.

Whatever difference from the actual training cost is subsidized by the training Center. Trainees' contributions may also be settled upon employment of the trainee

How many students are admitted yearly?

The Don Bosco Manpower Skills Training Center - Makati has trained thousands of out-of-school youth since its established in 1971. The number of youth who avail of the technical courses continue to grow. In 2006 alone, the Center admitted and trained 1,000 young men and women in various skills.

Where does Don Bosco gets its resources to finance the training of out-of-school youth?
There are generous men, women and institutions who share in the Vision and Mission of Don Bosco.

They help through donations, scholarship grants and in the procurement of equipment and audio-visual materials. Anyone can be part of this noble mission of providing the out-of-school youth with a secured future through technical education

Who can be admitted to the Center?

  • Age: 17-24 yrs Old
  • Family Income: Php 100,000 and below
  • At least 2nd year H.S. Level
  • Pass the Entrance Examination and Interview
