1DBTI ELEMENTARY DEPARTMENT CELEBRATES NUTRITION AWARENESS MONTH

Don Bosco Technical Institute of Makati Elementary Department celebrated for the whole month of July the Nutrition Awareness Month with the school slogan “Today’s proper nutrition, tomorrow’s healthy generation.” This is in congruence with the national nutrition theme “First 1000 days ni baby pahalagahan para sa malusog na kinabukasan.”

As stated in the DepEd Memorandum No. 100 s. 2016, the main goal of this celebration is to disseminate nutrition-related messages to all Filipinos through the said theme. Specifically, the celebration aimed to increase awareness on the importance of proper infant and young child rearing practices and giving them appropriate food. Further, this is also to promote collaboration among stakeholders at the national and local levels for health programs.
In support of this country’s nutrition developmental endeavor, the Elementary Department had organized meaningful activities for the students.
The month-long celebration started with a mentalization through an audio-video presentation by Ms. Gacutan during the Morning Assembly on July 7, 2016. On the same day, Nutri-taste booth was also put up during recess where students had a free taste of fruits, vegetables, and root crops prepared by the Science and Health teachers. Besides, the NUTRIvia, a weekly display of nutrition facts and trivia, was initiated as part of students’ awareness.  The NUTRIQuiz was likewise conducted for Grades 3 – 6 through Genyo facilitated by Mr. Mark Angelo Gutierrez, the Learning Integration Specialist, and assisted by the Science and Health teachers and e-classroom Laboratory Assistant in the Elementary Department.  The contestants of this Nutri Quiz Bee battled through elimination and final rounds.  At the end of the contest, the following emerged as winners:
